John Belavich, May 25, 1925-February 18, 2018, Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend left this world to join his beautiful wife Ruth and family in Heaven. He will be missed by his adoring daughters Patricia DiCicco (Dave) and Janet Stevens (Bob) and grandchildren Christopher Fox, Kimberly and Caroline Stevens all of whom he loved very much.
John spent the majority of his life in the Detroit area where he was the only child of Nicola and Katarine Belavich. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at age 17 during WWII and was sent to Okinawa where he and his fellow Marines bravely fought to end the war in the Pacific. Upon his return he graduated from Cass Tech High School and then Lawrence Institute of Technology. He met the love of his life - Ruthie - at a picnic and they were married in 1953. He went on to have a successful 34 year career as a mechanical engineer at General Motors and retired at age 61. They moved to Bluffton, SC in 2007.
John loved golf, scotch, his boats, Michigan Football and his Croatian community of which he was President for more than 25 years. Some of his greatest joys were seeing his children perform music and dances from our Croatian heritage.
Anyone who knew John loved him. He was kind, thoughtful and made everyone feel special. He loved to share his "Johnisms!" His life will be celebrated on Monday, March 5, 2018 at 11am at All Saints Episcopal Church, 3001 Meeting Street, Hilton Head Island, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Palmetto Animal League. Zivjeli!
