Don Joseph Attenhofer, 69, passed away on November 27, 2017 at the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Columbia, SC. He was born on May 17, 1948 in New Orleans, LA to the late Norman and Nancy (Altieri) Attenhofer.
Don was stationed in Fort Bragg, NC as a Green Beret in the U.S. Army . He served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded a Parachute Medal and National Defense Medal. After the military, Don spent greater than 20 years in the car industry; he loved “the art of the deal”.
Finally, he wound up in the court house searching titles with his wife and flipping houses. He knew every real estate agent and lawyer in Columbia.
Don was a wonderful father and beloved husband who rescued stray cats and gave money to panhandlers because his wife said God was watching.
He loved the outdoors and the men he hunted and fished with. He was a Clemson Tiger and he watched Walker Texas Ranger. He loved surprise visits from his children, expensive shotguns and good bourbon. He was a bass fisherman and a proud Republican. He did not wash dishes.
Don was a good and dear man, who lived life surrounded by the people who loved him.
Don was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Robin Attenhofer; and brother Kirk Attenhofer.
Surviving members include his wife Melissa Bailey Preacher; his children, Kathleen Anne and her fiancé Brian, of Pembroke, MA, James Andrew of Atlanta, GA, and Don Joseph of Henniker, NH; siblings, Jill Marie Smith of St. Petersburgh, FL, Jean Coward of Gastonia, NC and Scott Attenhofer, Visalia, CA; Granddaughter Kelsey Morgan of Plattsburgh, NY and Grandson Bobby McKuin of Manteca, CA.
Family will receive friends at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams Street, Ridgeland on Friday, December 1, at 1200, service to follow at 1300.

Today I am thinking about my wonderful oldest brother Don. He was always the best brother a sister could have. I could call Don at anytime and he would just sit and listen to me rattling on about my life. He was a great listener and always always had great advise as my oldest brother of three boys. I'm going to miss you D...I'll be waiting to hear form you. I love you so much. We will take care of Bailey for you.XOXO

To The Family
Please accept my Heartfelt Condolences. The loss of a loved one is most difficult. Please find comfort in the promise our most loving Heavenly Father Jehovah God gives us found in Revelation 21 4 "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more; neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." Please be encouraged.

Don was one of the sweetest, kindest men we’ve ever known. He watched over all of us at Heyward Point. We will miss him terribly. Now he must watch over us while at the right hand of our Lord.
Prayers are with Bailey and the family during this difficult time. .
