Russell B. Cooper, age 92, of Bluffton, SC died Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Hilton Head Hospital.
Mr. Cooper was born on February 7, 1925 in Sugar Grove, PA and was raised in Mars, PA, the son of the late Louie and Rollin James Cooper. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, and he attended Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh, PA and Columbia University in NY. He worked for many years in sales and management in the construction industry, specifically scaffolding. Russell’s career took him and his family to many different parts of the country where he made and sustained many close friendships in New Jersey, Wisconsin, and Virginia. In retirement Russell worked for the American Red Cross, Enterprise, was a Meals on Wheels volunteer, and was the founder and first President of the Low Country chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America.
Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by his sisters, Peg, Flo, and Shirley. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Amy L. Cooper; daughter Nancy Cooper; sons Jack Russell Cooper (Kelly) and Jeff Cooper; grandchildren Jason Russell, Caitlin, Michael, and Katy; and 3 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Bluffton United Methodist Church, 101 Calhoun Street, Bluffton, SC 29910. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Bluffton United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 368, Bluffton, SC 29910, Hilton Head Regional Habitat for Humanity, or Meals on Wheels.
