Richard Joseph Paris



Richard Joseph Paris, 80, of Bluffton, SC died Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville, SC surrounded by his family.

Mr. Paris was born on December 12, 1936 in Flushing, NY, the son of the late Patsy and Josephine Paris. After graduating from New York University, Mr. Paris began his career as a mechanical engineer with American Standard before founding Vibration Products, Inc., an engineering and marketing company that represented manufacturers of noise and vibration control products, which he later sold to Ketchum & Walton, Co.

Mr. Paris lived in Rockland County, NY where he served on the Clarkstown Planning Board for over 30 years. Along with his wife, Claire, Mr. Paris was a parishioner at St. Anthony's Church and involved in Marriage Encounter. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. After relocating to Bluffton in 2004, he became an active member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church where he helped establish the Christ Renews His Parish spiritual renewal program, a widower's bereavement group, and a men's spirituality group, and was recognized as a spiritual mentor. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, as well as a kind and generous friend.

Mr. Paris was preceded in death by his loving wife, Claire Paris. He is survived by his son, Richard (Yvette) Paris, Jr. of Roswell, GA; daughter, Valerie (Paul) Bishop of Morristown, NJ and grandchildren, Richard J. “Joey” Paris, III, James “Jimmy” Paris, John “Jack” Paris, Katie Bishop and Carolyn Bishop.

The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 3, 2017 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC. A Wake Service will be held at 7:00 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 31 St. Gregory Drive, Bluffton, SC.

The family requests memorial gifts be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital via
