Nealie Young



Nealie Bolden-Young was born June 15, 1924 in Ridgeland, SC to the late Wally Bolden and Susie Jenkins Bolden. At an early age, she confessed Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized. She became a member of St. Luke Baptist Church, where she served as an usher. In 1944, Nealie married the late Harry Fripp, Sr. Upon his death, she married Rev. Abraham Young. She was a seafood specialist and former employee of Bailey’s Seafood & Oyster Factory, Judge Buck Smith Seafood Co. of Hilton Head, Toomers Seafood & Oyster Factory in Bluffton, and Lemon Island Seafood Co. Nealie was a quiet, joyous, and giving person. She loved her family and friends, and enjoyed cooking for them. She also enjoyed gardening, crabbing, and taking care of her grandchildren.

On Monday, July 30, 2018 at her home in Lowbottom, SC, Nealie answered her Master’s call with her family be her side.

Nealie leaves to cherish her precious memories: her children, Catherine Johnson and Maybel Bolden, both of Philadelphia, PA, Alice Fripp of Ridgeland, SC, Johnny (Patricia) Fripp and Harry (Colette) Fripp, both of Hilton Head, SC, 28 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, 56 great-great grandchildren, two great-great-great grandchildren, her godchildren, Dorthy Mack and Edward Bolden, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and caring friends. She was preceded in death by her children, Wilhemina Fripp and the Rev. Victoria Howell.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at St. Luke’s Baptist Church, 3048 Snake Rd, Ridgeland, SC with burial at Lowbottom Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning 7:00 pm—8:00 pm, Monday, August 6, 2018 at the church.
