Ruth Guillory



Born June 10, 1925 to the parents of Leland McCormack (Probate Judge of Jasper County) and Virginia Nettles McCormack, Ruth made her entry into heaven Sunday morning, July 29, 2018. She lived a full 93 years. Ruth is survived by her sister, Becky Malphrus (husband, Dwaine) and was preceded in death by her siblings, Wickman McCormack, George McCormack (her twin), Parniece Richardson and Rudolph McCormack.

She married her Marine from Paris Island, Seth Rountree and shortly later they moved to Indiantown, FL. There they had their son, Steve Rountree. Some two years later, she lost her husband in a plane accident. She married many years later to Dick Guillory. Ruth was blessed to have good Christian parents which passed on Christ’s love to each of their children and they each passed that spirit in action to their children, a great legacy.

After graduating from Ridgeland High School in 1942, she worked at the Navy yard in Charleston, SC, followed by many jobs, until working at AT&T in Miami, FL. After which many years later changing gears, she and Dick became strawberry farmers for about two seasons, until operating the oyster business at Tickton Hall for one season. With all this on her resume, she landed a position at First National Bank in Ridgeland during which time she balanced many customer statements and worked until retiring.

She was a member of the Ridgeland Baptist Church, Youth Sunday School Teacher at Coral Villa Baptist Church, Miami, FL, played the piano at the Ridgeland Nursing Home nearly 40 years and was the official pianist for Sauls Funeral Home for three generations of the Sauls family. She was a member in her early years in the Eastern Star Chapter, also a member in the Jasper County Historical Society and part of the research team to make the Ridgeland Cemetery book. She was a caregiver to many people in our community and a special friend to many. She was a treasure to her family.

Her husband, Dick Guillory, preceded her in 2009 and surviving is her son, Steve Rountree (wife, Joan); grandsons, Wes (wife, Brandé), Ben (wife Katie); great grandchildren, Jake, Jared, Collins and Mallory; extended family, Richard Evangelista (Joan), Donna, Michael, Kristen, Kimberly (Matt), Benjamin, Isaac, Bryson, Norah, Raleigh, Mya, Jason, Justin, Kyla, Judah, Ezra, Shandi, Logan, Braedan and Cheyanne.

The family will visit beginning at 1:00 pm Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Ridgeland Baptist Church with friends until the hour of the service at 3:00 pm at the church. Burial will be at Ridgeland Cemetery. Memorials in the memory of Ruth may be sent to the Ridgeland Baptist Church or Tidewater Hospice.
