Philip Zarny



Philip Zarny, 90, of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Farmingdale, NY died Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Coastal Carolina Medical Center.

Mr. Zarny was born in Manhattan, NY, the son of the late Sarah and Max Zarnitzky. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving honorably during World War II. He entered college at 16 and ½ years old. After his service, he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from City College of New York and later went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Brooklyn Polytech. He worked for many years as a professional engineer, utilizing his talent and knowledge with the engineering of buildings and aircraft. Outside of work he enjoyed reading and actively serving his community.

Mr. Zarny was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Zarny. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Shirley Zarny; son, Seth Zarny (Ellen Radish); brother, Julian Zarny; and grandchildren, Rachel Short (Tyler), Sara Zarny, and Jared Pepper.

Mr. Zarny will be missed by his wife, Shirley, entire family, and his friends.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 8, 2018 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910. Burial will follow the service at Lowcountry Memorial Gardens.
