Francine Marie Kohout

On Saturday, April 21st, 2018, Francine Marie Kohout, nee Lecointe, left this world after suffering from a sudden illness. Her final days were aided by Tidewater Hospice and the Seabrook Community Nursing Home of Hilton Head, SC. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Francine was born April 29th, 1926 in Estaires, France and lived in Fecamp before moving to Monaco as a young girl. Her youth was changed greatly by the events of World War II, living briefly under occupation. Attracted to the English culture, Francine became a nanny in England after the war, strengthening her English skills. She later became a travel agent in Monaco and Paris. She fell in love with her future husband, Bernard Kohout in Paris. They were married in Silver Springs, MD in 1952, and she spent the rest of her years in the United States, living in Laurel, MD, Bridgewater, NH, and Hilton Head, SC. Together they shared 65 years of loving companionship, raised their daughter, and later Francine enjoyed taking on the role of grandmother.

She lived a full and active life, enjoying swimming, tennis, golf, skiing, and gardening. Her expert cooking skills were enjoyed by all her family and friends, teaching many the joys of French cooking. She taught French, was a Church Secretary, and coached High School Tennis.

Her Catholic faith remained the cornerstone of her life, and she was always actively involved in her parishes until her health interfered. She is survived by her husband Bernard F. Kohout of Hilton Head, SC, daughter Catherine F. Tetreault of Bristol, NH, son in law David W. Tetreault, of Bristol, NH, grandson David J. Tetreault of Burlington, VT, granddaughter Gabrielle M. Tetreault of Boston, MA, and numerous nieces and nephews in both America and France.

A Funeral mass will be held on Friday May 4th at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 24 Pope Ave. Hilton, Head SC.

Donations in her honor can be given to The Catholic Relief Service, or Doctors without Borders.
