Sandra (Haynes) Melvin, 55, passed away at home on June 28th after a long battle with breast cancer. A graduate of Princeville High School and longtime resident of Champaign-Urbana, she most recently resided in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Sandy was preceded in death by her son Zach, his father Mark Melvin, and her parents Jim and Marje Haynes. She is survived by her daughter Missy, her brothers Jeff (Jean) and Pete (Elaine) Haynes, and her sister Carrie (Todd) Garlick. As a speech and language therapist, Sandy was dedicated to her profession, and truly loved the kids she worked with. She faced all of life’s challenges with grace, courage, and a smile on her face. By those who loved her, Sandy will always be remembered for her love of island life, her generous spirit, and her unfailing sense of humor. Accordingly, her life will be celebrated during a casual evening of music and remembrance on July 14th (5-8 pm) at Hyatt Place Champaign-Urbana, 217 North Neil Street, Champaign, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Nature Conservancy, U.S. Virgin Islands at https://www.nature.org/ourinitiatives/regions/cari... or the Sunshine Foundation, St. Croix at http://sunshinefoundationstx.org/.
