Eugene D. “Gene” Ruegamer



Eugene D. “Gene” Ruegamer, age 87, of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Long Island, NY died Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Veterans Victory House.

Mr. Ruegamer was born on November 2, 1930 in Lindenhurst, NY, the son of the late George and Madeline Ruegamer. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving as an Aerial Photographer. He was a graduate of Pratt Institute where he earned a degree in architecture. Gene practiced as an architect in Manhattan for many years and was the owner of one of the top 100 design firms in the country, LCP Associates, where he lead as its “Creative Head”. He was a devout catholic and member of St Gregory the Great church, serving as a former Knight of Columbus and a Eucharistic Minister. Outside of work and civic involvement he enjoyed gardening and golf.

Mr. Ruegamer is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Agnes C. Ruegamer; children, Michael Ruegamer, Carol Spencer (Michael), Sandra Westveer (Douglas), Nancy Sanders (Thomas), and Paul Ruegamer; grandchildren, Lauren (Sheldon), Stephen (Kimberly), Sean, Stacey, Mark (Beth), Andrew, T.J. (Molly Ann), Tyler, Jamie, and Daniel; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 19, 2018 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 31 St. Gregory Drive, Bluffton, SC 29909. An inurnment will follow the mass at the columbarium of St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church, Hilton Head.
