Alfred Lawrence Reid, Jr., 85, of Bluffton, SC, husband of Mary Jeanne Dunne Reid, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston.
Mr. Reid was born May 19, 1932 in Fordham, NY to the late Alfred Lawrence Reid and Ruth Cecilia Kelly Reid. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, earned his Master’s Degree from St. John University of New York, and worked as a high school biology teacher for Wantagh High School in Long Island, NY. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church prior to his membership at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and an active member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree and served as a member and an officer for the Hibernian Society. Mr. Reid volunteered at Med-I-Assist, was an extraordinary minister for St. Gregory for the Homebound and loved to play golf.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Larry Reid (Tammy) of Bridgeport, WV, Chris Reid (Krista) of Maivorville, NY, Tom Reid (Kim) of Centereach, NY, and Dan Reid of Fairfield, CT; daughter, Peggy Zannfardino (John) of St. James, NY; sister-in-law, Joanne Reid of Middleton, DE; grandchildren, John, Julia, Mary, Nicholas, Michael, Katie, Izy, Luke, Danielle, Austin, Olivia, Natalie, and Tommy; and great-grandchildren, Dominic, Derek, Christina, and J.J. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Reid and sisters, Kathryn Logan and Ruth Wittig.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am, Friday, January 12, 2018 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 31 Saint Gregory Drive, Bluffton. The family will receive friends 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm, Thursday, January11, 2018 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd, Bluffton with a wake service beginning at 5:30 pm.
