Daniel P. Ryan



Daniel P. Ryan, age 76, of Hilton Head Island, SC, formerly of Rose Hill; Inverness, IL; and Huntley, IL, died on Friday, December 29, 2017, at Hilton Head Hospital.
Mr. Ryan was born on April 22, 1941, in Hartford, CT, the son of the late Philip M. Ryan and Betty B. Ryan. After high school, he proudly served his country as a Russian linguist in the United States Air Force. Following his military tenure, he worked in sales and attended college at night, ultimately earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Dan went on to establish his own business, Ryan Engineered Products, working as a Manufacturers’ Representative for many years. Civically, he served as the Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Village of Inverness for 10 years and was then elected to two terms as a Village Trustee. He was instrumental in creating the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District’s station located in Inverness and was responsible for hiring the experienced personnel to run the station. In 2001 he was elected a Trustee for the Village of Huntley, and served one term before he was elected to the McHenry County Board. Additionally, Dan enjoyed golf and was the proud owner of a 2004 T-Bird.
Mr. Ryan is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary Elizabeth Ryan; children, Daniel Ryan, Jr. (Jen); Monica Ryan (Tom Haigh); Nora Cay Ryan; Philip Ryan (Megan); and grandchildren Pacey, Haley and Henry. He is preceded in death by his brother Jim.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 5, 2018, at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church, 45 Beach City Road, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Salvation Army or to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
