Barbara Eidson Wiggins

Barbara E. Wiggins of Bluffton, South Carolina (affectionately known as Big Barbara) passed away suddenly the afternoon of December 28, 2017.
A Memorial Service will be held on January 2, 2018 11:30 am, at Christian Renewal Church of Hilton Head Island with Pastor Gilbert Posey officiating and music performed by both church and guest performers. Barbara wished it to be a joyful celebration of life, so please feel free to come in any color. Burial of ashes will be a private family gathering at a later date. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to either Black Swamp Cemetery Perpetual Care fund, Operation Mobilization for Marie-C and John Skiotis, or Christian Renewal Church.
Barbara lived a full and interesting life. She came into this world a surprise twin to John and Eleanor Eidson in Athens, Georgia. She and her sister Bobbie had many adventures growing up in Athens and Toccoa Georgia with a stay in Charleston, SC during WW2. She would tell of having to walk to school uphill both ways as a child and of the mischief she would get up to with her twin sister in their convertible.
While attending Brenau College, she met Clemson student Ed Wiggins at a square dance when hosting an exposure trip of the Georgia Appalachian mountain culture for her friend. After they married in 1958, Ed and Barbara settled in Bluffton SC where Ed began his architectural career on Hilton Head SC. They raised five children moving between Bluffton, Savannah and Hilton Head. Barbara assisted Ed in his business throughout the years and later established a rental property company.
Barbara had a classy presence, a beautiful faith and a love for people. She lived life to the fullest and possessed a love for art, a gift of interior design and thrived when working on a project. She became a faithful follower of Christ and member of Christian Renewal Church after God got her attention while traveling in a small plane during a lightning storm. Her deep and numerous friendships with a wide variety of people reflect her father’s saying that “everyone is a somebody.” She will be greatly missed by many here.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Edgar Causey Wiggins, Jr. She is survived by her sister Bobbie Hamby of Toccoa, Ga. Her children: Vikki Kemp of Queens NY, Edgar C. Wiggins, III of Bluffton SC, Clay Wiggins of Honolulu HI , Tucker Wiggins of Bluffton SC and Marie-C. Skiotis of Sharpsburg, GA. Her grandchildren: Ian, Caroline, Michael-Clayton, Jack, David and Stephen Kemp; Jacob, John Jordan, Joshua, Hannah and Noah Skiotis; Alex and Drew Wiggins; and Zoe Wiggins. Her great-grandchildren Layla, Max, and Lilly Kemp.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all who were friends with our mother and have shared wonderful stories about her. Thanks to Christian Renewal Church for generously hosting the memorial. Most of all we want to send a mountain of thanks to those who prayed for our mom and our family and walked with us through this difficult time.
