Lucy Keating Cobb passed away at her home in Bluffton Park on November 30, 2017. Lucy was born on October 8, 1936 to Lucy Martin Keating, of Claxton, and John Eugene Keating, of Savannah. She graduated from St. Vincent's Academy in 1954 and attended the University of Georgia, where she was a Phi Beta Kappa, when she fell in love with Herman "Sonny" Cobb, married, and began a family.
Lucy and Sonny made many friends as they worked and lived in Daytona Beach, Houston and New York. But they always were strongly tied to the Low Country and returned in 1980 to be among their family and friends here.
Known for her wit and wisdom, her love of the May and Colleton Rivers and their conservation, Lucy will be especially remembered for her many stories of yore spun while sitting on the porch. She will also be remembered for her mentorship to a number of neighborhood children, teaching them to garden and, in time, drive and encouraging them all to excel in school. While was an avid golfer and tennis player in her earlier years, she always retained her love for the water and spent many an hour swimming in the May with those she loved.
Lucy is survived by her daughter, Lucy Martin Cobb; “Little” Lucy’s husband, Ron Lynch of Nantucket; her brother, John "Keats" Keating of Bluffton; and her granddaughter, Meaghan Keating Lynch, of Cambridge, England.
Special thanks to Sandy Dean for her friendship and care in her final months.
A private memorial service will be held in the Pinckney Family Cemetery, Bluffton South Carolina at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pinckney Family Cemetery, c/o Agnes Pinckney, 50 Allen Corner Road, Bluffton, SC 29910.
Sauls Funeral Home of Bluffton is assisting the family with arrangements.
