Gwendolyn Nansen



Gwendolyn Nansen passed away peacefully at home on October 24, 2017. Gwen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was born in Pepper Hall Plantation, the eldest of five children to William Heyward and Katherine Davis Graves in Bluffton, South Carolina, on September 30, 1924. She had just celebrated her 93rd birthday surrounded by her loving family. While at a friend’s wedding in Savannah, Georgia, Gwen met Peter N. Nansen (deceased), a native of San Mateo, CA, and they married in 1945. In California Gwen discovered her passion for gardening which grew into a love of floral design. Many of her floral designs were award winning. Her love of plants, flowers and her garden was endless.
Gwen is survived by her three children Robert (Debbie) of Los Altos, Dawn of San Jose, Mark (Jacque) of San Jose, five grandchildren and one great grandson.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made in memory of Gwendolyn Nansen to the Sempervirens Fund at or a charity of your choice.
Gwendolyn and Peter will be laid to rest at St. Luke’s Memorial Garden Cemetery in her hometown of Bluffton, SC on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
