Anthony Zecchitella



Anthony Zecchitella, age 91, of Bluffton and formerly of Long Island died Monday, July 24, 2017 at Coastal Carolina Medical Center.

Mr. Zecchitella was born on February 26, 1926 in Newark, NJ, the son of the late Anna and Antonio Zecchitella. He attended New York University until he was called upon to serve the United States Army Air Corps with the “Mighty Eighth Air Force”. He served as a Radio Navigator during World War II and the Korean War, completing the remainder of his military tenure as a flight line supervisor in the Strategic Air Command. He then had a longtime career with Citicorp, retiring as Assistant Vice President. While living in Long Island he served as the President of his community H.O.A. Outside of work and civic involvement Anthony had a passion for music and was an accomplished piano player. While living in Bluffton he was a member of the Sun City Piano Club.

Mr. Zecchitella is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joan M. Zecchitella; children, Patricia Numprasong (Suwan), Anthony Zecchitella, and Carolann Zebrowski (Bill); grandchildren, Thomas, Sujari, Hunter, and Evan; and great-grandchildren, Finn Duerr and Sebastian Restrepo-Cantillo.

The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 28, 2017 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 31 St. Gregory Drive, Bluffton, SC 29909.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
