John “Jack” Burt, age 75, of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Chicago, IL and Charlotte, NC died Monday, June 5, 2017 at Hilton Head Hospital.
Mr. Burt was born on November 6, 1941 in Muskegon, MI, the son of the late Margaret and William Burt. Jack began his career with the Paper Dyes Division of DuPont where he worked for 19 years. He then continued his career with the Bayer Corporation where he retired after 22 years of service as a Technical Dye Specialist. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, was active with the Kairos Prison Ministry, and was a communicant of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church where he served as an usher. Outside of work and civic involvement he was an avid golfer and car enthusiast.
Mr. Burt was preceded in death by his brother, James Burt. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Judith “Judy” Burt; daughter, Theresa Shoemaker; son, John Scott Burt; grandchildren, Austin Ballard, Lauren Ballard Dawson (Nick), and John Alexander Burt; and great-granddaughter, Emerson Grace Dawson.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 14, 2017 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 31 St. Gregory Drive, Bluffton, SC 29909.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Knights of Columbus #12263, 33 White Oak Circle, Bluffton, SC 29910 or Kairos Prison Ministry of South Carolina, 8 Foxbrier Lane, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926.
