Dr. Paul J. Mademann



Dr. Paul ‘Doc’ Mademann was an extraordinary man who cared for many people. He was brilliant, kind, funny, generous, and always had a positive outlook on life. His family and friends meant the world to him.

Dr. Mademann was born in Bronx, New York. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Helen Mademann of Toronto, Canada and Bluffton, SC, a son, Paul Mademann (Frank Bright) a daughter, Kathryn Mademann ( Dr. Paul van Wijlen), a sister, Joan Mademann (Carl Isaacs) of Corpus Christi, Texas, a grandson, Chase Vaughan, a granddaughter, Amanda Shipman, and two great granddaughters, Jaylin and Khloe.

Dr. Mademann was preceded in death by two sons, Stephen Mademann and Dr. David Mademann.

Dr. Mademann graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, Toronto in 1954. While at school in Toronto he met his wife, Mary. After graduation they returned to the United States and Doc enlisted in the US Army. He was stationed at Fort Deven, MA in army security/intelligence, informally known as a code breaker. Once discharged from the service he began his chiropractic practice which continued for over 50 years. He first practice in Peekskill, NY and then moved his practice and family to Windham, NY. He loved living and working in Catskill mountains where he and Mary enjoyed the mountain life, skiing, playing tennis & golf, travel. Their home in Windham was always open to visitors and drop-ins and there were many fun parties.

Dr. Mademann and Mary retired to Hilton Head, SC because they loved it so much…especially sunrises on the beach. While enjoying his retirement life he learned to play the ukulele and piano, loved to paint in acrylics and draw in pastels, enjoyed singing in the men’s Barber Shop club, he was member of the Lion’s Club and a ham operator.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, April 17, 2017 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton.
