Theresa Melillo

Theresa A. Melillo passed away peacefully on March 10, 2024. Theresa was born on April 21, 1938, in Jersey City NJ, to parents Rocco and Antoniette Piscatelli who immigrated from Italy. She was predeceased by her sister and brother in law, Jean and Joseph Cetrullo of Belleville, NJ, and sister in law, Judy Melillo of Howell, NJ;  and survived by her loving and loyal husband of more than 57 years Nicholas J Melillo of Bluffton, SC.

Theresa attended school in Belleville, NJ and graduated from Belleville High School in 1958.  Theresa worked as an Underwriter for over 30 years at Continental Insurance Company and in the Finance Department for the Town of Belleville, NJ prior to her retiring in 2004. Theresa and Nick moved to Bluffton, SC in 2005 prior to settling in Sun City in 2006 and building their dream home.  Theresa enjoyed following her beloved NY Giants and never missed watching her coveted NY Yankees games.  Additionally, she was an avid food critic and was first to try and recommend any new restaurants in the Hilton Head and Bluffton areas.  She was passionate about her family and enjoyed watching and spoiling each new generation.  Theresa was also a devoted and active parishioner at St. Gregory the Great in Bluffton, SC  . She shared her love of sports, her family and sweets with any available ear,  and was the first to welcome any newcomers with stories of her life both past and present. 

Theresa is survived by her husband Nicholas Melillo of Bluffton,  brother in law Joseph Melillo of Bricktown, NJ, and Cousins Louis (Allison) Cavalluzzi of Hilton Head, Angela (Rocco) Cavalluzzi of Bluffton, niece Lisa Lambiase and nephew Joseph Melillo from NJ  as well as a large extended family including grand nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank; Dr.Long, Dr. Powell, and all the nurses and staff at The Hilton Head Hospital and Hospice of the Low Country for their excellent and compassionate care..  Additionally, a special thank you to Senior Helpers who made her wish possible of spending her remaining weeks at home

A public viewing will be held from 1 – 4pm at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton, SC on Monday, March 18th 2024 with a Memorial Service on Tuesday, March 19th at 10:30am at St. Gregory’s in Bluffton, SC.
