Roy Melvin Hay, age 89, of Bluffton, SC, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2024 under hospice care. Born in Randolph County Georgia on January 17, 1935, he was the son of the late Floyd and Bertha Hay.
Roy was preceded in death by his wives Sara Mathis Hay and Althea Sikes Hay; and by his children Danny Hay, David Wayne Hay, Martha Ednie and Kenneth Hay; and by his brother Henry and sister Betty. He is survived by his step-daughters Jenifer Whittington (Floyd) of Savannah, GA and Kathy Zaraza (Keith) of Easton, PA; his daughters-in-law Anita Hay and Natalie Hay of Ridgeland, SC; and his eleven grandchildren Amanda Dundee (David), David Hay (Menthey), Daniel Hay, Shayde Ednie, Mallory Ednie, Mahailey Ednie, Ashton Hay, Landon Hay (Kaitlyn), Ashley Grosch (Mark), Reily Piotrowski and Abby Piotrowski and several great-grandchildren.
Roy was a veteran of the US Navy. He retired from his career as a machinist at Stone Container in February 1995. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed woodworking, metalworking and hunting. He also loved to dance.
A graveside service and burial will be held on Thursday April 11, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Maye River Baptist Church, 3507 Okatie Hwy, Bluffton, SC 29909.
