Nanci D. Buck passed away on March 12, 2024. She was born in
1932 in Chicago, Illinois. She began dancing as a young girl and
was trained in classical, jazz, and Afro-Cuban dance. After high
school she moved to New York City and began dancing on
Broadway and in night clubs. Eventually she was selected to
perform in the dance segments of the Milton Berle TV Show. She
met her husband Lawrence Buck in New York City and they later
moved back to Chicago.
In the 1970’s she and her husband opened church-based after
school educational programs for inner city children. They
continued their ministry when they moved to Hilton Head Island in
1993 and started their own church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ellen
Darken, her brother, Elwood “Woody” Darken and her husband of
more than 50 years, Lawrence H. Buck. She is survived by two
nephews, two stepchildren and four step grandchildren.
